Dealing with Change

Page history last edited by Wanda Willis 13 years, 8 months ago

How well do you deal with change?

When plans began for major change in the 6th grade program, Mrs. Willis used the book, Who Moved My Cheese by Dr. Spencer Johnson, to help prepare them for change. After reading the book, Mrs. Willis lead the students in this special project: to plot all or the 6th grade team in their own maze which was placed above the lockers in the 6th grade hall.

One student took on the challenge of designing & creating the maze in the 6th grade hallway.  He had help as he directed the wall's construction.

Mrs. Willis' class

Sniff - Blue Mouse, Scurry - Pink Mouse

Hem - Purple Little Person, Haw - Yellow Little Person

1. The students identified which character

from the book they were most like.

2. They took their picture and pasted their face on the

appropriate character.

3. The maze was constructed.

4. Students & Teachers were placed in the maze

around their cheese.

5.  The class discussed how chage affected each

character and why people act the way

they do during changes.

6. They identified their reactions to change and tried

to empathize with the others.

7. This helped them be more tolerant of

others and understand themselves better.

8. When the restructure of the 6th grade program was

announced, the students were better prepared.

9.  After I left, they were to go find new

cheese and regroup on the maze.

The one sure thing in life is CHANGE!

This project could help you know better

how to deal with it.
